“Who Is Morpheus B?”

By Don Mizell: Legendary A&R Executive & Best Album of the Year Grammy award winning participating Producer: Ray Charles - "Genius Loves Company"

“When you enter the sonic world of Morpheus B, you are transported into a space where, back in time, dope beat music ruled the known universe. In the 70s, a whole gang of great jazz fusion oriented artists emerged from the boomer generation who pushed the frontiers of what may be said to be cool, cosmic, funky, groove music. Artists like Lonnie Liston Smith, George Duke, Dexter Wansel, John Klemmer, and others emerged with a kind of hypnotic trance-inducing aural soundscape in which one's sense of tranquility and elevated consciousness could flourish in a rhythmic flow. Morpheus B is a descendant of that groove, a disciple of that vibe, and a member of that tribe. He calls it the ‘Universal Groove Collective’. I call it ‘simply brilliant’.

The groove flows easily. It's all good when you go with Mr. B, and where you go. Everything you hear here is ever morphing: mind, spirit, heart and soul. And yea, he plays all the instruments too, whether on or off the computer. This music may have its roots ‘back-in-the-day’, but it points the way forward into a crisp ease and phenomenological focus that is assuredly poised to be riding with us as we move into our next space-time continuums. 'Love After Dark' yes, but, then what? Stay tuned to Morpheus B.”  ~Don Mizell

Biography

Musician, composer, producer, songwriter, and DJ, Morpheus B taps into the “Universal Groove Collective” to create music which is uniquely his. Incorporating elements from multiple genres (jazz, funk, R&B, Neo-Soul, Urban, dance/house, rock, and world/new age), Morpheus B creates an expansive musical soundscape with something for every body and every mood.

Using technology and his traditional music training on multiple instruments, Morpheus B is not bound by the constraints of a particular musical style nor by the limits of his own proficiency on any particular musical instrument. Instead, Morpheus B is free to explore, to adventure and to create. In the process, Morpheus B contributes a bit of his soul, his spirit, and his passion to the Collective.

The Universal Groove Collective: A music project older than Man, as old as time itself. In everything, there is a rhythm, a unique "groove", as fundamental as a beating heart and as complex as life itself. Through the ages, people have tapped into this universal groove to express their joys, their pain, their hopes and dreams. This musical expression also provides a soundtrack to everyday life. With each act of creation, the library of mankind's musical expression continually expands. Encompassing all musical styles and sounds, this library contains the echoes of human experience across time and space. Ever present and forever expanding, this library is: The Universal Groove Collective.

Morpheus B (a.k.a. Brian K. Saunders) began his musical training at an early age in Columbus, Ohio. At the age of 4, the piano was his first instrument. Next, his training on the violin gave him an appreciation and knowledge of classical music. Inspired by the great funk, jazz, and R&B music of the seventies, Morpheus B moved then to the electric guitar. Finally, as jazz became his favorite musical genre, the alto sax became his instrument of choice.

After receiving his engineering degree from Purdue University (also a DJ at WILY radio and teaching assistant for classes in Radio Production and Theatre Sound Design)), and then an MBA from Dartmouth, Brian had a successful career as a consultant and executive in the high-tech industry. Family (including twin daughters) and career demands left little time to pursue avenues for his musical expression. Yet, his musical passion remained. Then, in the late 90s, Brian found a way to combine his technology savvy and musical skills to create music that is "uniquely his." Morpheus B was born.

Morpheus B has been active in the online music world and has developed a global fan base for his music. With Top-10 songs in multiple genres on the old MP3.com and on Soundclick, Morpheus B won 2nd Place - Best Jazz Instrumental Song in the 2002 MP3.com Grammy for his track "La Guitara". His track "IPO" is featured in the independent film, "Canyon Racers."

Listen and enjoy!

"Sit back and relax.
Release yourself to the sound.
Let a tonal massage sooth your body.
And your mind, bathed in a cosmic shower of harmonies and melodies,
finds peace and tranquility.

Come, journey with me, Morpheus B,
as we explore the dynamic grooves of
the Universal Groove Collective."
